This year, I was fortunate to get a great picture of the 2007 Indy 500 winner, Dario Franchitti. The 91st running of the Indy 500 was cut short due to rain.
This reduced the crowds that stuck around after the race and made it possible for me to get this shot.
Dario Franchitti, during the post race interviews for the press.
They don't let the winner keep the trophy. They do give the winner and winning car owner a baby Borg trophy for winning.
Here is the Borg-Warner trophy being taken back to the Speedway Museum for safe keeping until next year.
These pictures of the winners started for me in 2002 when we were lucky enough to get to see Helio Castroneves
after he had won his second straight Indy 500. (See if you can pick out The Earl from the crowd)
I got the 2004 winner, Buddy Rice, prior to the race. A tornado in the area cut short the race, so we did not stick around in victory lane.
In 2005, I got a great shot of the winning Owner, Michael Andretti.
And a shot of the winning Driver, Dan Weldon.
2006 Winning Car Owner, Roger Penske.
Sometimes, We get too close to the winner, like this shot of the 2006 winner, Sam Hornish, Jr.
At least we got some other photos of Sam Hornish, Jr.
Just to have as part of the collection, I have been able to catch some other past winners. These photos
were taken in Richmond, Virginia.
From Left to Right, 4 Time Champion - Rick Mears, 4 Time Champion - Al Unser, Sr., & 3 Time Champion - Johnny Rutherford.
Not bad, 11 Indy 500 wins in 1 Shot.
A Panoramic Photo of Indy. It may take a moment to load on you machine.
